This week’s D23 Expo revealed a host of Disney-based production news, but where Pixar is concerned, fans finally got an early glimpse of ‘Finding Dory’.

With details still scarce on the long awaited sequel to ‘Finding Nemo’, the first image from the movie was shared by non other than Ellen DeGeneres - the unmistakable voice of Dory - along with some actual footage of the movie.

She was joined by co-stars Ty Burrell (a white beluga whale who believes his naturally lumped head is an injury that needs attending to), Kaitlin Olson (a whale shark called Destiny who believes other fish are scared of her due of her name), and Ed O’Neill (a seven-legged Octopus and the one featured above).

The official Disney Twitter account shared the photo and described the latter of those aforementioned stars - O’Neill, who plays an octopus named Hank - as ‘cantankerous’.

And, as you can see from the image that’s been released, Dory is - excuse the pun - very much a fish out of the ocean. In fact, the pair appear to be in a kitchen.

The story, as we’re aware of so far, will be partially set in an ocean sanctuary - a facility that homes and treats wounded creatures before releasing them back into the wild. The film’s plot is Dory attempting to track down her family and will feature previous ocean roaming buddy Marlin and, everyone’s favourite gimpy finned Clownfish, Nemo whom Dory now lives with.

Speaking about the anticipated animated sequel, its co-director Andrew Stanton said, “I wanted to know that if this charming, forgetful fish ever got lost again, that she would be okay.”

“And at the end of Finding Nemo, I wasn’t confident about that. So that’s when I knew I had another story,” revealed Stanton, who will have, for various commitments, taken a 13-year gap between the release of 2003′s smash hit ‘Finding Nemo’ and its 2016 follow up.

There are also a number of familiar faces that return, such as Willem Dafoe (Gill), Vicki Lewis (Flo) and Jerome Ranft (Jacques). They’ll appear alongside new faces such as Idris Elba, Dominic West, and Eugene Levy, and Diane Keaton.

‘Finding Dory’ is in UK cinemas on 29 July, 2016.
