Les Misérables star Russell Crowe has reflected on the experience of singing live for the 2012 movie.

Not to crush the magic or anything, but musical performances on screen are traditionally dubbed with a studio recording to achieve a crisper rendition. But director Tom Hooper took a different approach for his adaptation of the classic play.

During a chat with Hollywood Outbreak, Crowe (who played Inspector Javert) weighed in on why the live performances actually benefitted their movie.

"The whole aspect of singing live, which is very different from any other musical ever made... the fact that every single person is singing every take live on this, the benefit that that brings is that you're not restricted emotionally," he explained.

In the moment, every strain and vocal intricacy was captured, and it worked a treat.

In other Crowe-related news, the A-list star was recently cast in MCU blockbuster Thor: Love and Thunder.

Other newcomers to the MCU in Love and Thunder include Christian Bale and Melissa McCarthy.
