David Arquette has urged Neve Campbell to join Scream 5, insisting that she is the “heart and soul” of the entire series.

It was recently announced that Arquette and Courtney Cox would be reprising their roles in the fifth installment to the series. However, it has yet to be confirmed if Campbell will be joining the pair, which will be directed by Ready Or Not’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

But during his recent discussion with ET Online, Arquette made it very clear that Scream 5 really needs Campbell.

“We have to get Neve, that's the real thing. She's the heart and soul of the Scream franchise, so to get Neve would be a really tremendous thing. Like, I've seen her at conventions and stuff and it's just almost like family.”

“We all have gone through this experience together and it's -- we're all really sad about the loss of Wes...I would love for her to be a part of it. I mean, she's such an important-- she's the heart and soul of it."

The Wes Arquette is referring to is obviously Wes Craven, who directed all four instalments to the Scream franchise before his death on 30 August, 2015. His absence means Arquette is especially protective of how Craven’s replacements treat the characters in Scream 5.

"I just want them to be true to the characters, that's all that really matters to me. True to Wes' vision and [writer] Kevin [Williamson's] vision. The filmmakers were fans of the original and it really inspired them.

“So, it's great to see that. I mean, the more I've been in this business and where I'm at now, whenever you can combine something you love... there's something magical that happens. And these guys have that sort of approach to horror films. They love the original series, and I think they want to do it justice."

At the moment, it’s still unclear if Campbell will actually be involved in Scream 5, but it sounds as though Arquette is going to keep on asking her until he gets a yes.
