Shailene Woodley “Not Interested” In Divergent TV Plans

‘Divergent’ leading lady Shailene Woodley is not at all pleased with plans for the fourth and final film in the series to go direct to TV.

Quizzed on the matter by Screen Rant, the 24-year old American actress made her feelings on the matter quite clear:

“Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn’t sign up to be in a television show.

“Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”

Following in the wake of YA franchises ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Hunger Games,’ 2014’s ‘Divergent’ (based on Veronica Roth’s novel) proved fairly successful, the sci-fi thriller taking $288 million at the global box office.

2015 sequel ‘Insurgent’ also performed well, taking $297 million worldwide – but things were different for 2016’s third film ‘Allegiant’ (based on the first half of Roth’s final book, the filmmakers attempting to follow the pattern set by the last films in the‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Hunger Games’ franchises).

After poor reviews and $179 million box office, studio Lionsgate slashed the budget on the planned fourth film ‘Ascendant,’ and announced plans to make it instead for television, much to the surprise of both fans of the series, and the cast.

While Woodley and her co-stars (included Miles Teller and Theo James) are contractually bound for a fourth feature film, it remains to be seen whether this is still binding if the project shifts to the small screen.

Woodley will next be seen alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Oliver Stone’s fact-based drama ‘Snowden,’ which has its UK premiere at the London Film Festival on 15 October.
