Shia LaBeouf: Alcohol Problem ‘Almost F***** Up My Life’

Shia LaBeouf has admitted that alcohol almost completely derailed his life to the point that he’s now nearly 12 months sober.

During a very candid interview with Variety Shia LaBeouf, who only turned 30 in June, admitted that he stopped drinking shortly after he was arrested last October in Austin, Texas, for being publicly intoxicated.

After being asked to pose next to a vintage wine cellar as part of his photo shoot for the interview LaBeouf refused, declaring, “No. That s*** almost f***** up my life.”

“You don’t touch it, “ LaBeouf added. “Alcohol or any of that s*** will send you haywire. I can’t f*** with none of it. I’ve got to keep my head low.”

LaBeouf’s arrest in Austin occurred after he repeatedly called a police officer a “silly man,” but he has also been arrested on five other occasions, the most famous of which took place when he interrupted Alan Cumming’s ‘Cabaret’ performance on Broadway in 2014.

Following the latter incident LaBeouf began the 12-step programme in order to treat his alcoholism, while during his interview he admitted that his use of alcohol probably stems back to his childhood.

Not only was Shia LaBeouf arrested for the first time when he was just 9-years-old, but he also confessed that drugs were everywhere, including marijuana, cocaine, and heroin, in his house when he was growing up. LaBeouf noted, “[My dad] gave me my first joint when I was probably 11 or 12.”

But LaBeouf now appears to be back on the straight and narrow, while his film career is set to enjoy a renaissance, too, as his performance in Andrea Arnold’s ‘American Honey’ has been roundly lauded as has the film itself.

‘American Honey’ will be released in the UK on October 14.
