Splash Gets A Remake With A Twist

It looks as though classic mermaid flick ‘Splash’ is getting a remake.

During an interview with CNBC, producer Brian Grazer revealed that the iconic tale of man meets mermaid is being remade… but it might be doing things a little differently.

“I’m actually going to do it from the point of view of uh… I can’t say anything about it,” he said. But then went on to confirm that he would be doing the new film from the point of view of the mermaid, much like the original script. “Yes,” he said. “And that’s what… we’re going to be doing a version of that.”

‘Splash’ originally debuted back in 1984, starring Daryl Hannah as Madison (the mermaid) and Tom Hanks as her love interest, Allen Bauer.

After falling into the ocean during a trip to Cape Cod, Allen encounters a mythical mermaid… and after meeting her again many years later, the two fall in love. But when her fishy appearance is exposed to the public, she’s quickly taken by the government for further study.

And she could end up as fish food after experiments and dissections.

But who will star in the upcoming remake?

“There’s a movie star involved or going to be involved,” said Grazer. “I haven’t announced it.”

It’s currently unclear whether the movie star is attached to the role of mermaid or human…and unfortunately, Grazer wouldn’t reveal any further details, adding that he ‘couldn’t say’ who would be taking Tom Hanks’s role.

Who will be the new mermaid? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
