‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ just got a beautiful new poster.

And it might say a lot more about the Force than you’d think.

Appearing at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, director Rian Johnson debuted the first official poster for The Last Jedi… and while it gives us a cool glimpse of the enigmatic Rey wielding a lightsaber, it might show us a lot more.

Alongside the poster, the new Star Wars 8 trailer was released….

And it teases a more balanced view of the Force.

There’s a lot of talk about Rey seeing both the Light and the Darkness… as well as seeing the balance. And Luke Skywalker admits that it’s ‘so much bigger’ than that. He even mentions at the very end of the trailer that it’s time for the Jedi to ‘end’.

Hang on… what?

Although it sounds rather ominous, I get the feeling Luke Skywalker hasn’t fallen to the Dark Side, and he’s not about to go hacking down Jedi with a red lightsaber. But he may consider a more balanced approach when it comes to teaching Rey how to use the Force.

And her lightsaber in the poster might just tease that.

As you can see, her lightsaber starts out blue at the hilt – the colour most commonly associated with the Light Side… and eventually fades to red.

Does this mean Rey will wield the power of both sides of the Force?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But she could end up being the first Gray Jedi we’ve seen on the big screen. And that might just be a stroke of genius.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ will star Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher.

Rian Johnson both wrote and directed the movie.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
