Star Wars’ John Boyega Lands EE BAFTA Rising Star Nomination

British actor John Boyega has capped off an incredible start to 2016 by landing a nomination for the 2016 EE BAFTA Rising Star Award.

The Peckham-born star is riding high in the box office playing turncoat Stormtrooper Finn in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and he’ll be up against Brie Larson, Taron Egerton, Dakota Johnson, and Bel Powley for the publicly-voted gong at this year’s BAFTAs.

Previous winners of the award include James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, and Kristen Stewart.

John Boyega

Previous to ‘Star Wars’, Boyega appeared as gang leader Moses in Joe Cornish’s sci-fi comedy ‘Attack The Block’, and as a bit part player in ‘24: Live Another Day’.

Brie Larson

‘21 Jump Street’ actress Brie Larson is getting awards buzz for her role in the upcoming drama ‘Room’, an adaptation of the hit Emma Donoghue novel, and was also recently seem in Judd Apatow’s ‘Trainwreck’.

Taron Egerton

Welsh star Taron Egerton is currently hot property thanks to his feature debut ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’, a supporting role in the Krays biopic ‘Legend’, and the upcoming ‘Eddie The Eagle’ in which he plays the hapless ski jumper Eddie Edwards.

Dakota Johnson

Dakota Johnson, another ‘21 Jump Street’ alum, is getting recognition off the back of the hugely successful ‘50 Shades of Grey’ in which she stars as Anastasia Steele and her supporting role in the critically acclaimed Boston crime crime ‘Black Mass’ opposite Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Bel Powley

Rounding out the nominees is former CBBC star Bel Powley who began her acting career in the kid’s spy spoof ‘MI High’, before the cracked the big leagues in 2015 thanks to acclaimed turns in ‘Diary of a Teenage Girl’ and as Princess Margaret in ‘A Royal Night Out’.

Fans will be able to vote for their favourite soon with the winner announced at the EE BAFTA Film Awards in London on 14 February.
