Steven Seagal has been banned from entering Ukraine because he’s seen as a ‘national security threat’, according to reports.

A title that would perhaps delight the on-screen persona of the US action star but is probably less desirable as a public citizen, he won’t be allowed to enter the country for the next five years.

In a letter published by the Russian-language website Apostrophe, he’s now ‘persona non-grata’ as far as the Ukrainian security services are concerned.

According to them, the ‘Under Siege’ star has ‘committed socially dangerous actions… that contradict the interests of maintaining Ukraine’s security’.

It’s most likely that the move has come thanks to Seagal’s close relationship Russian leader Vladimir Putin – they share a love of martial arts – who he has previously described as being ‘like a brother’.

Seagal has in the past defended Putin’s annexing of Crimea, calling it ‘very reasonable’, also taking part in a pro-Putin motorbike rally in the area.

Last year, the actor accepted Russian citizenship from Putin in a ceremony at the Kremlin, while Putin has suggested Seagal should become an honorary Russian envoy to the US.
