Suicide Squad Test Screenings Prove A Hit With Non-DC Fans

The most recent test screening for DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’ has been met with a warm reaction, and that’s coming from non-DC fans too.

A couple of weeks ago the first test screenings for the David Ayer-directed comic book film took place, and were met with largely positive responses. Since then, another test screening has just taken place in Sacramento, California, and significantly audiences here were not hardcore DC fans - in fact, they weren’t even aware of what film they were about to see until they were seated.

Reactions to the showing were promptly shared and discussed on Reddit, with user soyodu saying this was merely an advanced screening that no one knew anything about:

“Initially I thought it was Trek, IDR or Bourne, until the NDA said Warner Brothers on it. I will tell you there was NO standing ovation, but a decent amount of people clapped in the end. In fact, when they first told us we were going to see a screening of the movie, pretty much the whole theater cheered and screamed. At the end, probably only half clapped…which doesn’t mean the other half didn’t like it, but if this was like a Thursday night showing with fanboys, I have no doubt it would have been a much bigger applause.”

So it’s not like sceptics can criticise a biased agenda of a fan screening because nobody knew what they were in for. Furthermore, the same person notes that it’s not the final cut that’ll be seen in cinemas:

“This is an unfinished cut. There was lots that I really liked, good action, pacing (for the most part). But as I’ve said there were 2 characters who had a decent sized role in the plot/story that did not connect with me. I could care less about them. They tried for an emotional scene and yea…didn’t work. But yes, walking out, I’ve heard a few people raving about it, and a few just good/pretty good. The person I was sitting next to came with his family and he didn’t even know the movie after they announced it (older guy) and he said it was ok. I didn’t stick around to hear if anyone had anything bad to say.”

Cinema goers who where at the latest screening were happy to share their positive thoughts on Twitter, too:

Granted, the likes of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ also had similarly hyped opinion following its test screenings, but it still bodes well that the praise extends beyond a simple verdict and goes into a little more detail, as per the Reddit discussion board.

‘Suicide Squad’ hits UK cinemas on 5 August, 2016.
