'Supergirl' ditches the skirt as Melissa Benoist reveals season 5 costume
The new season of Supergirl will see the title hero ditch her classic skirt.
Melissa Benoist has revealed her new hero get-up on social media and it features a bottom half that more closely resembles the Superman outfit work by Tyler Hoechlin.
The costume doesn’t depart too much from Kara’s original look from the last four seasons - the belt and thigh high boots are still there as well as the cape - but instead of the super short red skirt and tights the actor now wears tight trousers.
If that wasn’t enough, Benoist is also rocking a fringe which altogether offers up a more mature version of the DC hero.
Talking about the new look with Entertainment Weekly, the actor along with co-showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner said it was more than time for Kara to get an updated look.

“We’ve been talking about pants since season 1,” Benoist said. “Every time a writer from the show has come up, and it’s freezing cold in Vancouver, I’m like, ‘Guys, please can I not wear tights?’”
“I love [Kara’s old costume]. I haven’t changed it because it so works, and I think it is very Kara. I’ve always felt that — until recently, I’m like, ‘Something’s gotta give.’”
“A lot of us were passionate about getting Supergirl into pants and out of the short skirt, and we felt like that would be a powerful move, and Melissa is really excited about it,” Queller added.

“So we just had to find the right moment to design the suit and in between seasons gave us a chance. But this is something we’ve been thinking about for a while.”
A trailer for Supergirl season five is yet to be released by The CW but it should be returning to Sky and Now TV later this year.
