Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 won’t happen

Sorry ‘Turtles’ fans - ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3’ won’t happen.

According to ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ producer Andrew Form, another sequel won’t be on the cards… But we shouldn’t rule out another ‘Turtles’ movie altogether.

“I don’t think there’s Turtles 3,” he told Collider. “But I wouldn’t say there’s never going to be another Turtles movie.“

Of course, you can hardly blame Paramount for pulling the plug.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ managed a lacklustre $35.3 million opening - down 45% compared to the original film’s $65.6 million debut. And it’s box office totals were even less impressive.

Earning just $245.6 million at the global box office, that’s a whopping 50% less than the original film, which managed $493.3 million globally.

And then there’s the film’s critical response…

Aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes gives the ‘Turtles’ sequel a dismal 38% with most critics agreeing that the film is more juvenile and simplistic than the first movie.

“We were obviously surprised at the box office results,” said Form. “We loved the movie. We loved making the movie. From our first Super Bowl teaser to everything we launched, we felt so good about our material, and for some reason it did not find the audience that the first movie found.”

“We talk about it all the time,” he added. “And we tried to figure it out, but we cannot put our finger on what happened. We really can’t. It’s just one of those things where we feel like we made a really great movie; we thought at the time that our release date was great, and we added all these new characters with Bebop and Rocksteady and Baxter Stockwell had a big role in the movie and Casey Jones and for some reason when it came to opening weekend…”

Either way, the film just didn’t rise to the original film’s standard… and now it looks as though a third instalment is probably out of the question.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ is on DVD and Blu-ray now.
