Terminator: Emilia Clarke to play Sarah Connor?

Game of Thrones actress to take iconic role in upcoming reboot.

Emilia Clarke is set to become cinema's next Sarah Connor

Rumour has it that Game of Thrones and Dom Hemingway actress Emilia Clarke has beaten off competition from Brie Larson to win the role of Sarah Connor in the upcoming Terminator reboot.

According to Variety, Clarke was the clear favourite to play the mother of fabled Resistance leader, John Connor.

Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke, meanwhile, is thought to be in negotiations to play John.

Thor: the Dark World director Alan Taylor will be at the helm of the movie penned by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier.

Little is known about the plot so far, though it will see Arnold Schwarzenegger return to the iconic role of futuristic cyborg assassin, the T-800.

Producers are also looking to cast Connor's father, Kyle Reese. Actors thought to be being considered for the role include Garrett Hedlund, Nicholas Hoult and Boyd Holbrook.

The Terminator reboot is set for a summer 2015 release.

The last film in the franchise, Terminator Salvation, saw Christian Bale star as John Connor, while Anton Yelchin played a young Kyle Reese.
