The new 'Terminator' movie may have found its new John Connor.

'Zero Dark Thirty' actor Jason Clarke is said to be in talks to play the future-based revolutionary in the franchise's reboot.

It was previously thought that Tom Hardy was lining up for the role, but it seems that his extended turn as Mad Max and taking on Elton John in biopic 'Rocketman' may have ruled him out.

The news comes after it emerged that the next film in the series kicked off by James Cameron will be called 'Terminator: Genesis'.

But the choice of Clarke for the role might give away the merest hint of a plot-line.

So far producers are torn over hiring either 'Game of Thrones' star Emilia Clarke or Brie Larson as Sarah Connor.

[Larson, Clarke for Terminator]

Considering the substantial age gap between Australian-born Clarke, 44, Emilia Clarke – no relation – at 26 and Brie Larson at 24, it suggests that there's a bit of time travel afoot.

But then this is a Terminator movie... though previous films have depicted John Connor as younger than his embattled mother Sarah.

Alan Taylor will be directing the movie, so perhaps, having directed a number of pivotal episodes of 'Game of Thrones', Clarke could be favoured for the Sarah Connor role.

Taylor was last seen behind the camera of 'Thor: The Dark World'.

'Terminator: Genesis' is due for release in the packed summer of 2015.
