The eighth episode in the fuel-injected blockbuster franchise ‘The Fast and the Furious’ is just over four months away – and now we have our first brief glimpse of the action.

Watch the first sneak peek of the trailer below, ahead of the full trailer’s release on Sunday.

Directed by series newbie F Gary Gray (‘Straight Outta Compton’), ‘Fast and Furious 8’ – being released as ‘The Fate of the Furious’ in the US – will have quite the weight of expectation on its shoulders after 2015’s ‘Fast & Furious 7.’

The troubled seventh film in the series managed to rise from the tragedy of star Paul Walker’s untimely death to become the biggest ‘Fast &Furious’ by far, grossing $1.516 billion worldwide (making it the sixth highest grossing film of all time at present).

Naturally this very brief glimpse of the eighth film doesn’t give us any huge insights plot-wise, but we do get brief glimpses of most of the key stars – Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and the new villain of the piece Charlize Theron.

We can also see two of the key locations: Iceland, where a massive icebound chase sequence will take place, and Cuba, where the film broke new ground as the first Hollywood production to shoot in the once off-limits South American nation.

The newly released synopsis also gives us a better idea of what it’s all about:

“Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

“From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage… and to bring home the man who made them a family.”

Look out for more when the full trailer lands on Sunday, and expect to catch ‘Fast & Furious 8’ in UK cinemas from 14 April 2017.
