The first trailer for ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ hinted at dark times ahead for our old metallic pals the Autobots – and the newly released poster only hammers home that message further.

Paramount just released the official one-sheet for the upcoming sci-fi action film, the fifth entry in the ‘Transformers’ series, once again directed by Michael Bay (reportedly for the last time, although he said that of the third and fourth films too).

It’s a pretty downbeat image, highlighting a scene already featured prominently in the trailer – Optimus Prime battling his colleague Bumblebee, possibly to the death.

The ominous tagline reads, ‘rethink your heroes,’ so it’s safe to assume ‘The Last Knight’ will see some less than heroic deeds performed by the Autobot leader.

Well, we’ve already seen Batman fight Superman and the Avengers turn on one another, and we’ll see Vin Diesel at loggerheads with his buddies in next year’s ‘Fast & Furious 8,’ so Optimus Prime turning heel seems the logical next step.

Of course, Prime’s one line in the trailer – “forgive me” – implies there may be more to than meets the eye (rimshot) to this situation. But either way, the fact that there’s a ‘Bumblebee’ solo movie lined up for 2018 should allay fan fears that the much-loved character is definitely done for.

‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ opens on 23 June 2017.
