Watch The Stars of Ab Fab Hilariously Fail To Identify Posh Champagne From Budget Plonk

What’s the one thing Patsy and Eddie, the stars of ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’, cannot live without?

Why, it’s CHAMPAGNE darling!

With that in mind, Yahoo Movies wanted to test the palates of Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders to see if they could taste the difference between a premium and a budget champagne.

Armed with three posh fizz brands and three supermarket own-brands, we hit the junket for a blind taste test (despite the knowledge that they actually substitute champagne with ginger ale on set) and you can watch the predictably hilarious results above.

Taste test 1: Aldi’s Verve Monsigny Champagne Brut Vs Laurent-Perrier Brut

After initially declaring that both drinks “taste the same”, Joanna Lumley decided that the Laurent-Perrier tasted “more expensive” and she was right, while Jennifer thought the Aldi champers was the better drink of the two, calling it “jolly nice”.

Even Joanna was shocked by the Aldi’s £10.99 price tag, calling it astonishing.

Winner: Round one goes to the budget brand, Aldi.

Taste test 2: Waitrose Blanc du Blanc Vs Champagne Moet & Chandon Brut

The Waitrose champagne threw the pair in the second taste test, with both declaring it a superior tipple to the Moet, despite it being a good deal cheaper than the posh brand. “Good for them!,” Lumley summed it up.

Winner: Round two also went to the budget brand, Waitrose’s £22.99 a bottle offering

Taste test 3: Tesco finest* Premier Cru Vs Verve Clicquot Ponsardin Yellow Label Brut

By this point the comedy duo were getting a little bit tipsy, with Jennifer deciding “you’ve actually given us six very nice champagnes!”, and they both decided they preferred the Tesco plonk which sells for £18 a bottle. They did admit though that they’re “not very good judges”, but we think they’re being modest.

Winner: Tesco’s award-winning Premier Cru was the resounding winner, making it 3/3 for the budget booze.

‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ is in cinemas from 1 July. Watch a trailer below.
