David Thewlis will play an iconic ‘Wonder Woman’ villain.

It’s no secret that 53-year-old British actor David Thewlis has joined ‘Wonder Woman’ – after all, he was officially announced to join the DC superhero flick back in November last year.

But who will he be playing?

That’s remained a bit of a mystery, until now… but a new rumour suggests that he could be suiting up as one of the most iconic ‘Wonder Woman’ villains from the comic books.

According to Batman News, David Thewlis will be playing the film’s main villain.

That’s right – he’s Ares, the god of war.

“According to multiple sources, David Thewlis, best known as Professor Lupin in Harry Potter, will be playing Ares in Wonder Woman,” they revealed. “I’m told that Ares is a mix of CGI and practical effects, and that he’s the main villain in the movie.”

Unfortunately, we’ve yet to see Ares in any of the film’s trailers… but we do already know that he’s going to be the film’s villain. After all, recent images of the film’s action figures included collectable pieces of the God of War’s armour.

And when you put them together, you get this:

“The CGI aspect might be why we haven’t seen Ares in any trailers yet. They’re probably still working on it. But don’t be surprised to see him pop up in the next one.”

It certainly makes a lot of sense for Thewlis to be playing the villain. After all, we’ve not seen either of them appear in any of the recent trailers or promo materials… and it makes a rather cool addition to an already excellent-looking movie.

Of course, for now we have to wait and see.

But I’d put my money on this rumour being the real deal.

Gal Gadot stars as Wonder Woman alongside Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielson, and Lucy Davis.

Patty Jenkins directed the film based on a script by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns.

‘Wonder Woman’ heads to cinemas on 2 June 2017.
