If his ambitious new project really hits the mark, he might well be. ‘Lost in London’ marks Harrelson’s directorial debut, and stars Owen Wilson in a single take comedy. That’s right – the entire film is being shot in one take and streamed live into cinemas.

And with the project promising a mix of autobiography, live theatre and film, it could well be a landmark film from a first-time director.

If he pulls it off.

Harrelson previously announced ‘Lost in London’ back in September, but revealed almost nothing about the project apart from a title and location. But now it looks as though the film is far more ambitious than anyone realised.

“No one’s ever shot a movie and live-broadcast it in cinemas at the same time,” he revealed via a rather cool teaser trailer. “No one’s ever been that stupid, until now.”

“Join me for ‘Lost in London’,” he added. “A movie about one of the worst nights of my life, that I thought would make good comedy.”

It seems that ‘Lost in London’ is inspired by a real-life incident from back in 2002, when Harrelson spent the night in a police cell after reportedly damaging the inside of a taxi that had picked him up after an evening at the Chinawhite nightclub. He was eventually arrested after a police chase involving a second cab which he used to flee the scene.

Quite a little adventure there, Woody.

But this isn’t the first time he’s been willing to explore the incident for the amusement of others. Back in 2012, he planned to write a play about the incident. But now it seems that this has morphed into one of the most ambitious directorial projects of all time.

“I love theatre and I love film and I really wanted to figure out a way to merge the two,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Then I thought this particular story does occur sequentially and cohesively, so I thought I’d like to shoot it in real time, like live cinema or whatever you’d call it.”

‘Lost in London’ will star Owen Wilson and Willie Nelson as part of a 30-strong cast. The film will apparently shoot at 14 locations, presumably across London… and Harrelson has promised to jump off Waterloo bridge should the project fail.

Better hope it’s a good one, then.

‘Lost in London’ heads to cinemas on 19 January 2017.
