Zack Snyder has confirmed that the upcoming prequel film to Army of the Dead, starring Game of Thrones and Fast & Furious actor Nathalie Emmanuel, has officially wrapped filming.

The action-horror is set to be a follow-up to the Justice League director's zombie movie, which is currently going by the same name and is due to be released sometime in 2021.

Netflix reportedly liked what the filmmaker was creating so much when it came to the original that it greenlit the new production – and an anime series – before it had even come out.

The multi-language spin-off is directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, who reprises his movie role of Ludwig Dieter in it, and Snyder has now shared the news that filming is over alongside an on-set snap.

"Thanks to all the cast & crew and Netflix," he tweeted, while the photo offered up glimpses of Emmanuel's character and Schweighöfer's Dieter, as well as actors Guz Khan, Stuart Martin and Ruby O Fee.

Elsewhere, Power's Ana de la Reguera and Omari Hardwick, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy), comedian Tig Notaro, Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children), Westworld's Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead), Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista and, of course, Schweighöfer star in Snyder's film.

It centres on a group of mercenaries who break quarantine to venture into an infested Las Vegas and pull off "the greatest heist ever attempted".

Army of the Dead will be released on Netflix in 2021.
