Justice League finally assemble to take on Avengers

Warner Bros. push ahead with their team-up superhero flick off the back of 'Avengers Assemble'

The success of 'The Avengers' seems to have inspired Warner Bros. to begin prepping their own superhero team-up franchise, which will feature Batman and Superman.

The studio has the rights to all DC Comics characters, and surely looked on enviously as rival comic firm Marvel made more than a billion dollars with their ensemble blockbusters.

Warners have hired that 'Gangster Squad' scribe Will Beall to write a screenplay for ‘Justice League’.  Beall is currently the go-to writer at the studio, having already committed to the 'Lethal Weapon' reboot and remake of 'Logan's Run'.

The problem for Beall will be to fit the existing movies and character incarnations into the same universe.

Christopher Nolan's Batman films will almost certainly get the reboot treatment, as the director said the 'The Dark Knight Rises' will be his last film in the series.

Christian Bale, however, recently said he would not rule out a return to the cape and cowl, so perhaps he could prove the common thread?

'The Green Lantern' is another potential source of continuity, although the film version bombed last year. It too might need a reboot before being added to the mix.

Next year also sees the release of 'Man of Steel', and the new Superman film is the most likely jumping off point for any potential 'Justice League' film.

Of course, Warners have tried to get the project off the ground before, with George Miller set to direct a version in 2008. However the Writer’s Strike intervened and the film was eventually cancelled.
