Brutal red band trailer for new Gosling/Winding Refn movie.

We've finally got a glimpse of the new collaboration between 'Drive' director Nicolas Winding Refn and his leading man of choice Ryan Gosling... and it looks brutal.

'Only God Forgives' will take cinema-goers deep into the Bangkok underworld, with Gosling playing Julian, a westerner who has become a respected figure thanks to his family's drug smuggling business.

Julian runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the operation, which is watched over by his fearsome mother Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), who charges Julian with finding and killing the person responsible for his brother's death.

Scott Thomas's character is reportedly described in the production's synopsis as 'a merciless and terrifying mafia godmother', which sounds about right from what we see here.

Gosling has variously referred to the script as 'a western', 'a fairytale' and 'the strangest thing I've ever read', so be prepared to have your mind blown.

Particularly keen on the trailer is 'Lost' and 'Prometheus' writer Damon Lindelof, who tweeted somewhat exuberantly: “That new Ryan Gosling trailer makes me want to SHAKE RYAN GOSLING AND SCREAM 'WHY ARE YOU RETIRING!?!' AND THEN FRENCH HIS MOUTH!”

Well, quite. Gosling revealed last month that he is planning to take a break from acting.
Also starring in the film are Tom Burke, Vithaya Pansringarm and Rathar Phongam.

It's due out on July 19.
