Steve Carell appears on Ellen as Despicable Me villain

Star stayed in character as Gru throughout hilarious appearance. He also danced.

Steve Carell went all out to promote animation sequel ‘Despicable Me 2’ - by appearing on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres show’ literally dressed as the villain Gru, complete with bald head, huge shoulders and exaggerated body shape.

Stars who do voiceovers for cartoons usually don’t make this much effort.

The game comedian stayed in character throughout (just about), telling Ellen that it was the first time he’d been on TV, and that he would “destroy her chair”.

Dancing is synonymous with the show, and Gru got into the spirit by disco dancing his way into the adoring audience.

It was hilarious and just really odd.

‘Despicable Me 2’, which co-stars the vocal talents of Jason Segel, Russell Brand and Kristen Wiig, is released in the UK on 28 June.
