Aidan Turner New Bookie’s Favourite For Next James Bond
Well, fancy that - it looks like the most hotly tipped contender to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond 007 has changed, again.
Bookmaker Boyles Sports reportedly suspended bets on Aidan Turner becoming the next Bond after some sizeable bets was placed - and now the odds have been slashed on the ‘Poldark’ star taking over from Craig.
Boyle Sports spokesperson Liam Glynn told the Evening Standard that the bookmakers had “[suspended] the betting on Tuesday (14 June) due to a massive surge of support for Aidan Turner, that included a four figure bet at 2/5 to become the next James Bond.”
As of Thursday 16 June, Boyle Sports “opened back up the market… but cut Turner into the red hot 1/5 favourite to be drinking his Martini’s ‘Shaken Not Stirred’.”
The spokesperson optimistically noted, “There is no smoke without a fire and it certainly looks like Turner has been in negotiations with the Bond producers and it will be interesting to see how long we will be able to keep the market open for.”
The 32-year old Irish actor has long seemed a likely candidate for the next Bond, after winning a loyal following for his tall, dark and handsome turn on ‘Poldark.’ His other credits include ‘The Hobbit’ (in which he was a bit less tall), and supernatural TV drama ‘Being Human.’
This development comes as speculation seems to be cooling off around Tom Hiddleston, who in recent weeks was rumoured to have all but landed the part.
Still - we should bear in mind that, despite the rumours, there is still no official confirmation that Daniel Craig has indeed stepped down as 007.
But supposing the rumours are true, would Turner be a suitable replacement? Feel free to tell us what you think in the comments below.
