Chronicles of Narnia Being Soft Rebooted With The Silver Chair

CS Lewis’ beloved children’s fantasy series ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ is to be soft rebooted with an adaptation of 'The Silver Chair’, TriStar Pictures has announced.

'Life of Pi’ and 'Finding Neverland’ screenwriter David Magee will pen the script (via Deadline), adapting the 1953 story which doesn’t feature the series’ principal protagonists, the three Pevensie children.

Since 2005’s 'The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe’, the subsequent two books - 'Prince Caspian’ and 'The Voyage of The Dawn Trader’ - were adapted in 2008 and 2010.

'The Silver Chair’ being the next in line hints at this being a continuaton of the story, albeit without the same lead characters.

The story follows Eustace Scrubb, who was played by Will Poulter in 'Dawn Treader’. He’ll likely be recast given the tendancy for humans to age over time.

It’s also unclear at this point whether Liam Neeson will returnt to voice Aslan the lion.

If 'The Silver Chair’ is a success, TriStar, alongside The Mark Gordan Company and The CS Lewis Company, will be hopeful that it can adapt the final three books and complete the series.

Those final three books are 'The Horse And His Boy’, 'The Magician’s Nephew’ and 'The Last Battle’.

The first two films were produced through Disney, with the third through 20h Century Fox.

CS Lewis’ stepson Douglas Gresham is involved in the project. In a statement he said: “It’s been both fun and exciting to work with Mark Gordon and David Magee to develop the next Narnian movie, and now it’s a thrill to welcome Tristar to our Narnia family.

“I greatly look forward to plunging again into the joys and challenges of once more bringing Narnia to the screen, this time with the wonderful story of 'The Silver Chair’.”

No release date has been set for the project.
