David Leitch confirmed as Deadpool 2 director

It’s chimichanga time for ‘John Wick’ co-director David Leitch.

As had been expected, the seasoned stuntman-turned-director has officially signed on to take the helm on ‘Deadpool 2,’ The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Leitch – who co-directed ‘John Wick’ with Chad Stahelski, but was officially credited as a producer due to Director’s Guild of America rules - was among the first names mentioned in contention for ‘Deadpool 2’ when original director Tim Miller unexpectedly dropped out.

He has some history with the character and with star Ryan Reynolds, having been the stunt co-ordinator on ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ Deadpool’s inauspicious big screen debut.

Leitch’s many other stunt credits include ‘Fight Club’ (doubling for Brad Pitt), ‘300,’ ‘V For Vendetta’ and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum.’ He also directed second unit on ‘The Wolverine,’ ‘Jurassic World,’ ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and more.

‘Deadpool 2’ will be only his third directorial credit, yet it seems already confirmed that he will not be returning for the already-announced ‘Deadpool 3,’ as THR report that studio 20th Century Fox are already on the lookout for another director to take the helm on that film.

Whoever lands the third ‘Deadpool’ will almost certainly get a little more time to prepare their vision for the film than Leitch, as ‘Deadpool 2’ is expected to go into production January 2017.
