British fans might still be waiting for the chance to relive Frozen 2 via Disney+, but a new behind-the-scenes documentary series will give them their fix of Elsa and Anna.

The animated sequel is slated to arrive on Disney+ in the UK from 17 July, several months after the release in the USA, which was fast-tracked due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But Disney has announced that the behind-the-scenes doc Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 will premiere globally, in its entirety, from 26 June.

The six-part series follows the key cast and crew of the movie as they complete the final year of work on the highly-anticipated follow-up to what was then the highest-grossing animated film ever made.

Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are obviously at the centre of the action, along with songwriting duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and cast members Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, UK fans were a little perturbed by this announcement given the fact the movie remains unavailable via Disney’s streaming platform on these shores.

On the Disney+ page for Frozen 2, a message currently states that “due to other existing agreements, this title will be available on 17 July 2020”.

Those existing agreements presumably concern the movie’s existing digital release, which was the second biggest in history.

Fans, however, aired their frustrations with Disney on Twitter.

Frozen 2 made $1.45bn (£1.19bn) at the global box office when it was released in November 2019 and scored highly with film critics, netting a 77% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie is now either the second highest-grossing or highest-grossing animated film in history, depending on whether you count the 2019 photorealistic remake of The Lion King.

Talk has naturally turned to the possibility of Frozen 3, but the powers that be at Disney are remaining tight-lipped.

The original Frozen is available on Disney+ in the UK, as well as the shorts Frozen Fever and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.

All six episodes of Into The Unknown: Making Frozen 2 will be available on Disney+ from 26 June.
