Watch: Ghostbusters: Afterlife new trailer
The Ghostbusters are being given a new lease of life in the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
You ain’t afraid of no ghosts? Well… you might be this time, with the trailer hinting at a darker turn compared to its comedy predecessors.
The story will centre around a single mother (Carrie Coon) who moves her two children Trevor and Phoebe to a rural town in the hopes of a new life.
The house they move into used to be owned by her father, Egon Spengler, one of the original Ghostbusters played by Harold Ramis.
But while she worries about being a good mum to her kids (played by Wolfhard and I, Tonya star McKenna Grace), the children are busy snooping around the house.
They soon find major pieces of Ghostbuster memorabilia: a ghost trap hidden under the floorboards, and the classic car, Ecto-1.
This comes in pretty handy when ghosts start inhabiting and causing havoc around the town, and it’s up to them to try and send them back to where they belong.
While the series establishes a new generation of Ghostbusters, it also has numerous throwbacks to keep fans happy — including the return of Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz, the gang’s most trusted friend and receptionist.
Then there’s the case of multiple Stay Puft babies that start forming an army in the local Walmart.
Knowing they need to call in reinforcements, the team soon ring in an old friends with a familiar voice (Dan Aykroyd) seemingly confirming the return of one of the original gang.
In a life-imitating-art moment, Jason Reitman, who is taking over from his father Ivan Reitman as the director of the Ghostbusters movies.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is released in cinemas this November.
