Han Solo Spin-Off Will Be Lawrence Kasdan’s Final Star Wars Movie

It looks as though the upcoming Han Solo spin-off film will be Lawrence Kasdan’s last in the ‘Star Wars’ saga… as a writer, at least.

According to Bild (via The Supernaughts), the 66-year-old filmmaker seems keen to leave the galaxy far, far away.

“This is my last film for this saga,” he said. “I didn’t even want to do this last one anymore, but my family loved the idea… I did four Star Wars movies. That’s more than enough…”

But while Kasdan seems eager to give up his writing duties on the ‘Star Wars’ saga, that doesn’t mean he wants to walk away from filmmaking entirely…

“I want to work as director again.”

Of course, Lawrence Kasdan was brought on board to rewrite ‘Star Wars 7’ along with director J.J. Abrams… and it’s been previously reported that he would write the upcoming sequels along with ‘Star Wars Rebels; producer, Simon Kinberg.

But now it looks as though Kasdan could leave the franchise before the final part of the new, sequel trilogy.

And to be honest, it sounds like he could do with a break.

According to Bild, Kasdan has been working on the script for the Han Solo spin-off film for the last two years, writing it alongside his son, Jon Kasdan. Will he stay on board to produce the rest of the saga? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But if Lawrence Kasdan truly leaves ‘Star Wars’ behind, he’s going to be sorely missed.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 17 December 2015.
