How Daredevil Actor Charlie Cox Blew His Han Solo Audition (Maybe)

Actor Charlie Cox suspects he had a shot at being the new Han Solo - but his experience as Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ may have inadvertently scuppered his chances.

The British actor, who has portrayed the blind Marvel superhero for two seasons on Netflix, recounts to The Hollywood Reporter that he had a big audition which went wrong earlier this year:

“I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot— and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’

“I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind.

“I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.”

A tantalising ‘what if’ - but as we know, Alden Ehrenreich (’Hail, Caesar!’) will be filling Harrison Ford’s boots as the younger incarnation of the beloved space smuggler.

Other actors known to have been in contention for the lead in the prequel (from ‘Jump Street’ directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord) include Miles Teller, Dave Franco and Taron Egerton.

The as-yet untitled movie is due May 2018.
