Kate Dippold Reveals Plot Details On Goldie Hawn/Amy Schumer Action Comedy

Screenwriter Kate Dippold has spilled a few beans on her as-yet untitled new movie starring Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer.

The comedy scribe - known for work with director Paul Feig, including ‘The Heat’ and the upcoming 'Ghostbusters’ - tells Collider that it’s a mother-daughter adventure, largely inspired by her relationship with her own mother.

Dippold explains, “When I was younger, my mom was always very adventurous. Her and my dad divorced when I was in college, and she’s gotten more concerned about safety. She wants to make sure the doors are locked. I feel like there used to be a more adventurous spirit in her. She’s still lovely and awesome. She’s like, 'I’m 66 years old, just leave me alone right now’…

"But I started daydreaming about, what if I took her on a crazy vacation somewhere, and then I took us off the beaten path, just to shake things up. So then, I started thinking about a movie version of that. So, the movie is that.

"She gets taken off the beaten path, but then everything the mother feared is correct. So, it’s then basically trying to get to an American embassy through the Amazon rainforest and whatnot.”

The film, directed by Jonathan Levine, marks Goldie Hawn’s first acting role since 2002’s 'The Banger Sisters,’ of which Dippold notes “Thank god, it’s Goldie Hawn, so my mom can be excited.”

As for how the Hollywood veteran and the 'Trainwreck’ star work as a double act, Dippold says Hawn and Schumer are “really awesome together. From the beginning, Amy always pushed for going after Goldie to play the mom ‘cause she was a big fan. So, them together is really special.”

The in-production film made headlines in June, when it was announced that some of its gun-related violence had been cut at Schumer’s behest, in the wake of the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.

The film will open 12 May 2017 (by which time they’ll have settled on a title, presumably).
