The plot of the movie is being kept firmly under wraps, but fans have been disarmed by the fact Reeves does not seem to have adopted the trademark Neo look and appears more like John Wick out for a stroll.

Fans have been waiting for a continuation of the story since trilogy-closer The Matrix Revolutions landed to very mixed reviews in 2003.

One half of the original directing duo — Lana Wachowski — has returned to helm this new movie, and has co-written the script with novelists Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.

Matrix 4 is due to arrive in cinemas in March 2021, in the same week as the fourth entry in Reeves’ John Wick franchise — providing a clear double bill for fans.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff and Priyanka Chopra have joined the series for the new Matrix installment.
