Teller appears in Maverick as Rooster, who is the son of Anthony Edwards' tragic character Goose from the original movie, and told Entertainment Tonight it would be "great" to play the role again.
He added: "That's all up to TC. It's all up to Tom. I've been having some conversations with him about it. We'll see."
Teller said he has enjoyed the opportunity to strike up a bond with Cruise during the process of making Maverick and said the star even sent him a message for his birthday recently.
He added: "For him to share Top Gun with me and a lot of these other young actors it's just been such a wild ride, and it's still going."

Directed by Oblivion filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, Maverick sees Cruise's fighter pilot tasked with teaching a new generation of cocksure airmen how to carry out a near-impossible mission.
Among them is Rooster, with whom Maverick has existing tension over his father's death, as well as other pilots played by the likes of Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro and Lewis Pullman.
Top Gun: Maverick has earned strong reviews from film critics — with a 97% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes — as well as amassing $1.13bn (£939m) at the global box office.
The movie has even been tipped for glory at the Academy Awards, with fans speculating about a possible Best Picture nod and Cruise's first acting nomination in more than 20 years.

Cruise, though, will be returning his attention to the role of Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible franchise, with seventh entry Dead Reckoning — Part One due next year.
He is also on the verge of heading into outer space with Edge of Tomorrow and American Made director Doug Liman to shoot a movie in orbit on the International Space Station.
