Wolverine is assembling a team from the past to prevent a dystopian future, and the new trailer is considerably lighter in tone than the previous two efforts.
Here’s 21 things we noticed from the new trailer which you can watch for yourself above.
School’s out.. Forever?
The mutant school has gone to the dogs, presumably following the events of ‘First Class’. Is Professor X’s mental state to blame for the school’s decline?
Checkmate
James McAvoy’s Xavier seems to be in a dark place (literally and figuratively), with the chessboard he used to play with Magneto gathering dust.
Junkie
McAvoy told Yahoo, “You learn that [Xavier] is a bit of a junkie for a while… He’s a mess, he’s falling apart, and he’s terrified, angry and confused.” Looks about right.
The future’s not bright
A glimpse of the nightmarish future that Wolverine is trying to prevent shows giant floating ships that deploy deadly robotic Sentinels.
Tables turned
The original Sentinels, designed by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) turn on humans. Is this the event the mutants are trying to prevent?
Timelessly cool
Hugh Jackman proving again that Wolverine is the coolest X-Men, even in 70s duds. Let’s see how he copes with 80s fashions in ‘X-Men Apocalypse’.
“Cold-hearted b****”
Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique joined Magneto’s band of baddies in ‘First Class’. Future Wolverine is well aware of what the shapeshifter is capable of. He’s seen 'X-Men' 1, 2, and 3.
On wheels
Earlier in the trailer, young Xavier is seen walking, now he’s in his famous wheelchair – what gives?
Incarcerated
Michael Fassbender’s Magneto is banged up, is this connected with the viral trailers that implicated the magnetic mutant in the JFK assassination?

Up the walls
We get a look at the stunt that Jackman, McAvoy, Fassbender told Yahoo was the “best in the movie”. It’s newcomer Quicksilver (Evan Peters) running up walls.
Mass destruction
Young Magneto makes a mess out of a sports stadium in a clip that’s reminiscent of ’The Dark Knight Rises’. Note the subtle product placement.
Small man syndrome
Peter Dinklage stars as industrialist Bolivar Trask, the man responsible for creating the over-sized robotic Sentinels that play in key part in ‘Days of Future Past’.
Beast mode
Here’s Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence’s real-life beau, in his new improved Beast make-up. He’s also seen in human mode during the trailer, so has he learned to switch it on and off?
West Wings
A whole squad of flying mutant-hunting Sentinels are unveiled on the White House lawn. This can only end badly right?
Stop watch
Young Xavier deploys his patented time-halting, background actor-testing mind trick.

Bedridden
Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique appears to be in a hospital bed. Does she get injured?
Inclement weather forecast
Halle Berry is back as Storm. It looks like she only appears in the future segments of the film.
Bone claws
Wolverine has bone claws in the past sections, but metal ones in the future. Magneto is rumored to have a hand in the explanation behind this.

Don’t blink
This is Blink and Bishop, two of the mutants from the future, battling the giant Sentinels.
Freeze
Iceman and new mutant Sunspot team up to take on the sentinels in a battle scene early in the film. Watch it here.
Fight!
Looks like Wolverine will take on the Sentinels in one on one combat, something fans of the franchise have wanted to see for a long time.
‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ is in cinemas from 22 May, 2014.
