Ryan Reynolds wants a Deadpool and Wolverine team-up movie

‘Deadpool’ star Ryan Reynolds has a suggestion for a future X-Men universe movie that sounds like a total no-brainer – although, at this point in time, it seems unlikely to happen.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor says he’d love nothing more than to team up with the guy he spent a good deal of 2016’s surprise smash hit making fun of: Hugh Jackman.

“I want Deadpool and Wolverine in a movie together. What we’re gonna have to do is convince Hugh.”

Convincing Jackman could be a challenge, as the 48-year old Australian superstar – having portrayed Wolverine eight times since 2000 – has declared that the upcoming ‘Logan’ will be his final performance in the role.

But Reynolds suggests he may have to “get my internet friends back on board to help rally another cause down the line.”

Those same ‘internet friends’ are of course largely responsible for ‘Deadpool’ getting made in the first place, after the enormously positive reaction to early test footage for the film which was leaked online in 2014.

Reynolds adds, “Hugh Jackman is one of the best human beings. Part of the reason I want to do a Deadpool/Wolverine movie is not just because I think the two would light the screen on fire but I genuinely love the guy.”

Reynolds and Jackman have of course shared the screen before, when the Canadian actor made his debut as Deadpool in 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’… but as most fans will agree, that was hardly the most auspicious meeting of iconic Marvel mutants.

As such, fans would doubtless love to see the two characters reunite in a higher calibre movie – but is that likely to happen with Jackman seemingly adamant about hanging up the adamantium claws (excuse the terrible pun)?

Either way, we can look forward to at least one more bow from Jackman in ‘Logan,’ opening in UK cinemas on 24 February 2017 – by which time, ‘Deadpool 2’ is expected to be in production.
