The Batman confirmed for 2018 release
‘The Batman’ is coming.
Although Ben Affleck’s upcoming ‘Batman’ solo film has been on the cards for a while, it’s been notably without a release date. That is, until now.
During an interview with Deadline, Warner Bros. boss Greg Silverman revealed that ‘The Batman’ will be heading to the big screen in 2018.
“In 2018, there is a second Fantastic Beasts film, and Ready Player One feels like an ambitious movie by the world’s best filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, that will set the world on fire,” he explained. “There is Aquaman with James Wan, and Scooby Doo will be a huge launch and then there is Lego Ninjago. And then there is Ben Affleck’s Batman.”

Of course, earlier this week Affleck himself confirmed that ‘The Batman’ is on track to begin filming next year… and that makes the 2018 release date entirely likely.
“We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together,” said Ben Affleck. “We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”
The upcoming ‘Batman’ movie will star Ben Affleck in the title role, but he’s also writing and directing the movie, too. Quite a task, considering the lukewarm reception to ‘Batman V Superman’. But then, his stint as the Dark Knight was one of the better aspects of that film.
So does this mean Warner Bros. are fast tracking ‘The Batman’?
It certainly seems so. The DC movie slate was already looking pretty full, with big screen versions of ‘The Flash’ and ‘Aquaman’ as well as ‘Justice League’ on the cards. But it looks as though they’re keen to push out their heaviest hitter.
But when in 2018 can we expect ‘The Batman’?
The decision to push ‘Aquaman’ back to October 2018 has left DC with a previously announced slot now open – 27 July 2018. And that would give ‘The Batman’ the opportunity to shine as one of 2018’s biggest summer tentpoles.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
