The Hulk has been confirmed for ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ but how does he fit in?

It looks as though plans for The Hulk in the upcoming Marvel movie ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ are out of this world in a rumoured storyline which hints at a rather awesome comic book plot.

“[Thor] ends up on a gladiatorial planet where his head is shaved and he’s forced to fight for his life,” explained Geek.com. “Thor knows that he has to get to [some object] to defeat Hela and Loki and he has to get off the planet.”

And this is apparently where The Hulk comes in…

“[He] runs through all of his alien opponents in gladiatorial combat, even without his trademark hammer. Finally, Thor has to face the current champion of the arena, and wouldn’t you know who that ends up being? The Hulk.”

Of course, comic book fans will know exactly what this means – ‘Planet Hulk’.

Published in Incredible Hulk #92 back in 2006, the ‘Planet Hulk’ storyline saw the Hulk banished to an alien world after the secret group of heroes known as the Illuminati decides that he’s just too dangerous to remain on Earth.

After landing on the planet Sakaar, the Hulk is taken into slavery – forced to fight in gladiatorial combat. And after besting hero after hero in the arena, it’s not long before the Hulk seizes his chance – killing the Red King to become the new leader of Sakaar.

And this, it seems, is how the Hulk might appear in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’.

If you believe the rumours.

“When we reconnect with Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, he’s managed to avoid reverting back to the Banner state since we last saw him in the Quinjet in Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

“Hulk in Hulk form is pretty much unkillable,” they explain, “so he survived the trip to Sakaar (however he got there). His ‘Banner’ is starting to seep through into the Hulk persona, and because of the Hulk-Banner melding, Hulk actually remembers Thor and his relationship to him. That’s what starts the two on a Midnight Run to the MacGuffin that Thor desperately needs.”

But will this comic book plot make it to the big screen?

Mark Ruffalo has already confirmed that the Hulk will appear in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’… but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Even if it does sound like a likely story.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ heads to cinemas on 27 October 2017.
