February is a good month to catch up on all the movies nominated at the Oscars, starting with the BBC airing acclaimed documentary Black Box Diaries.

Produced and directed by Shiori Itō, the documentary follows the journalist's investigation of her own sexual assault in 2015. It will be broadcast on BBC Four at 10pm on February 4 and will be available on iPlayer.

Based on Itō's 2017 memoir, Black Box Diaries follows the filmmaker's quest for justice after having identified her rapist as Noriyuki Yamaguchi, head of the Tokyo Broadcasting System.

"Combining secret investigative recordings and emotional first-person video, Shiori's quest becomes a landmark case in Japan, exposing the country's desperately outdated judicial and societal systems," the logline reads.

The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2024 and played at SXSW before being released in the US and the UK in October last year to positive reviews, earning a 98% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
