Chris Hemsworth has confirmed that cameras will roll on Thor 4 – aka Thor: Love and Thunder – in January.

The Australian star revealed the news during an interview posted to Twitter by – of all people – the brand vitamin Swisse, who he has an endorsement deal with.

“I was supposed to be shooting Thor right now,” he said. “And obviously everything got pushed back, and I'll be starting that in January.

“It's the fourth Thor film, and I think the eighth or ninth time I've been in a Marvel movie, so I’m very excited to try to do something different, you know, the last three films we certainly pushed the envelope and created different versions of the character, and now people expect some dramatic changes.

“So we’ve got our work cut out in that sense.”

Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok director, is 'currently' writing up the script, Hemsworth added, as well as dropping in Natalie Portman being back to play Dr. Jane Foster, and Tessa Thompson returning as Valkyrie.

Not much else is known about what's to come in the world of the Norse god, although there is widespread speculation afoot.

It's rumoured that Natalie's Foster will be taking on Thor's powers, as well as the mantle of 'the Mighty Thor'.

Watch: Hemsworth would be ‘unemployed’ without fans

The movie is among the highlights of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Four, which begins with Black Widow, initially delayed but now due for release in May, 2021.

It's followed by a rapid-fire slew of Marvel movies, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings due in July, 2021, The Eternals in November, 2021, the Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel in December, 2021, and Thor: Love and Thunder in February, 2022.

It's rounded out by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, directed by Sam Raimi, in March, 2022.
