Yahoo Movies Descendants star Dove Cameron lost out on Wicked role to Ariana Grande
Descendants star Dove Cameron has revealed that she auditioned for the role of Glinda in the upcoming Wicked movie adaptation but lost out to Ariana Grande.
Wicked is the musical theatre show that tells the story of Glinda (the Good Witch) and Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and their unlikely friendship in the Land of Oz. It serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz and depicts Elphaba's fall from grace.
Grande will play Glinda while Cynthia Erivo will take on the role of Elphaba. But Cameron, who played Mal in Descendants, has revealed in a new interview with The Wrap that she actually tried out for the role of Glinda.

"I know that for everybody who did go out for it, it was a very long process," Cameron said. "It was one of the longer processes I've been a part of."
However, she holds no ill will against her friend Grande and now joins the millions of fans who are super-excited about the musical adaptation from Jon M. Chu, the director of Crazy Rich Asians.
"I'm so excited for Ariana. She's a genuinely dear friend of mine. We met when we were super young. I think she's gonna kill it. I think the whole cast is phenomenal, head to toe. So, like, as a fan, I'm really, really excited to see it," Cameron said.

The project will be split into two parts with the first arriving in 2024 and the second coming the following year. Jeff Goldblum will star as the Wizard of Oz, Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh will play Madame Morrible, and Jonathan Bailey will play love interest Fiyero Tigelaar.
Fans were recently given their first looks at Grande and Erivo in the lead roles.
Wicked is scheduled for release on November 27, 2024. The sequel is currently scheduled for release on December 25, 2025.
