'Edge Of Tomorrow 2' will happen 'if Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise want it to'
Edge Of Tomorrow 2 could easily be made, if Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise decide that they want to star in a sequel to the sci-fi blockbuster.
That’s according to director Doug Liman, who oversaw the critically acclaimed 2014 original. During his recent interview with Collider, Liman was asked for an update on Edge Of Tomorrow 2, which has been rumoured pretty much since its predecessor was released.

Liman’s comments suggest that a script is ready and waiting to be shot, just as soon as its leading actors Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise decide to do so.
“It’s one of these things where if Tom, Emily and I were to say, ‘we’re ready to pull the trigger on this script,’ it’s Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, the film gets made. That’s pretty much how Hollywood works. The stars are the gatekeepers. If you can get Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt to commit to the movie, it’s going to happen.”
Based on the 2004 Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill, written by Hiroshi Sakurazka, Edge Of Tomorrow is set in a future where most of Europe has been invaded by aliens. Cruise plays Major William Cage, a public relations office with no experience in combat, who gets caught in a time loop, which sees him relive his death over and over again.

However, with each passing death, Cage’s fighting skills become more and more impressive, and he soon joins forces with Sergeant Rita Vrataski, a legendary war hero, who starts to train him.
Edge Of Tomorrow was both a financial and critical success upon its release, while both Cruise and Blunt have repeatedly declared their interest in making a follow-up. However, the popularity of the actors means that they haven’t found the time to do so yet.
