'The Simpsons' parodies 'Avengers: Infinity War' in new couch gag

It seems that The Simpsons were unluckier than most in Thanos’s ‘snap’ from Avengers: Infinity War.

In a new ‘couch gag’ from the veteran cartoon series, currently in its 30th season, the Marvel supervillain pitches up at 742 Evergreen Terrace.

Plucking the dummy from Maggie’s mouth, he inserts it into his Infinity gauntlet, and in an instant, Bart, Lisa, Homer and Marge are dust, just like Black Panther, Spider-Man, Star Lord and poor old Bucky Barnes were by the end of Infinity War.

Youngest Simpson Maggie survives, mind, and joins Thanos on the sofa. If you can’t beat em…

The gag was released ahead of episode 12, There’s No Time To Sleep, which also features dramatic music instead of the usual Simpsons theme.

The Simpsons will all be part of the happy Disney family in the near future when the House of Mouse completes its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the owners of the Matt Groening sitcom. This merger was predicted by the show years ago, so who knows, maybe Thanos might arrive soon for real.

Avengers: Endgame is on the way, of course.

Due to land on 26 April, it’ll be pitting the remaining Avengers who weren’t ‘killed off’ by Thanos’ hand percussion against the devastation he caused when he vapourised half of all living things across the universe.

What this will entail is a closely guarded secret, but fans quickly latched on to a recent remark from Samuel L. Jackson – aka Nick Fury – who pointed out that Captain Marvel, who his character pages at the end of Infiinty War, is rather adept at manipulating time.

Could that be the way in which Thanos is defeated? (Mind you, if it is, fans have mulled that since Infinity War was first released, so it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise).

We’ll find out on 26 April.
