Alien: Covenant sequel could shoot in 14 months
The sequel to ‘Alien: Covenant’ is already in the works…
And it could start filming within the next 14 months.
It’s no secret that Ridley Scott wants to make ‘Alien’ sequels – a lot of ‘Alien’ sequels. But where he originally planned to make at least another five, that count has since been reduced to just two more… and it sounds as though work has already begun bringing them to the big screen.

During an interview with IGN, the 79-year-old filmmaker revealed that he’s already begun work on the next ‘Alien’ movie.
“We’re writing [a sequel] now, as we speak,” he said. “I’ll be filming that within 14 months.”
Of course, this doesn’t quite fit with claims that Ridley had already written the sequel… but either way, it looks as though the studio is keen to keep the ‘Alien’ franchise rolling.
But don’t expect any real answers in that movie, either.
Asked if he planned to resolve some of the unanswered questions from both ‘Alien: Covenant’ and ‘Prometheus’, he explained that they’ve been purposefully left ‘wide open’.
“That’s why I’m doing it, so you’re asking these questions.”
But what will the new movie be called?
Scott has previously mentioned the subtitle ‘Awakening’ when discussing the plethora of future ‘Alien’ movies he wants to make… so I wouldn’t be surprised if he manages to sneak that one in.
But at this stage, it’s anyone’s guess.
And during this particular interview, he actually referred to Neill Blomkamp’s canned ‘Alien’ film as ‘Awakening’…
“They wanted to do Alien, er, Awakening – Neill Blomkamp,” he explained. “I said fine. I was going to be the producer. If I could have, I would have. Except I do question – why have both [Blomkamp’s Alien and Scott’s Alien] out there? It seems like shooting your big toe off – it doesn’t make sense.”
“But they didn’t go forward with it, Fox, so I just kind of kept out of it. I mean, I’d literally ignited this thing to bring it off the ground again, because it was lying there dormant on a shelf. I had this thing to bring it back up – but here we are.”
‘Alien: Covenant’ stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, James Franco, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Callie Hernandez, Carmen Ejogo, Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace.
Ridley Scott directs, based on a script by John Logan, Jack Paglen, Michael Green , and Dante Harper.
‘Alien: Covenant’ heads to cinemas on 19 May 2017.
