Donald Glover Joins Spider-Man: Homecoming

It looks as though Donald Glover has joined ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 32-year-old ‘Community’ star is in talks to join the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ reboot, joining new Spidey, Tom Holland.

“Donald Glover is in talks to join the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming,” they said. “The movie has been quietly casting up and the roll call includes Michael Keaton as a villain, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and Zendaya as the female lead.”

Of course, Donald Glover is perhaps best known for the role of college student Troy Barnes in the NBC sitcom, ‘Community’. But he’s no stranger to the big screen, either – starring in ‘Magic Mike XXL’ and ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ amongst others.

But most importantly, he was also once linked to the role of Spider-Man…

Once upon a time, the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise (starring Tobey Maguire) was coming to an end… and with Sony keen to reboot the movies with a fresh, new face, there was a campaign to get Donald Glover in the title role.

That’s right – fans wanted Glover to star as Miles Morales.

But which role is he up for in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’?

“Details of Glover’s character are being kept secret.”

Obviously, Tom Holland has already landed the role of classic Spider-Man, Peter Parker. And perhaps Donald Glover is now a little too old to play a young Miles Morales. So for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man, with Marissa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as Michelle, Toni Revolori as Manuel and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Michael Keaton is also rumoured to join as the main villain.

Jon Watts will direct, based on a script by John Francis Daley.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ heads to cinemas on 28 July 2017.
