Ricky Gervais’ new Netflix show is turning into a mini-Extras reunion.

Scottish actress Ashley Jensen has Gervais in the cast of After Life, a new 6-part comedy series from the co-creator of The Office and Extras, which has just began shooting in London.

Also confirmed to be joining the cast are Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey), David Bradley (Game of Thrones), Tom Basden (Plebs), Tony Way (Edge of Tomorrow), David Earl (Cemetery Junction), Joe Wilkinson (Him and Her), Kerry Godliman (Derek), and Mandeep Dhillon, Jo Hartley, Roisin Conaty and Diane Morgan (David Brent: Life on the Road).

Gervais said, “This cast combines the best of the new breed of great British comedy talent with some of the wonderful alumni of my previous shows.”

The show is about a man named Tony (played by Gervais) who, after losing his wife and contemplating suicide, begins living his life on his own terms. He decides to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he wants, regardless of the consequences, much to the despair of his friends and family.

Sounds like prime Gervais territory.

Charlie Hanson who produced Extras, Life’s Too Short, and Derek will serve as executive producer.

After Life, written by, directed, and starring, Ricky Gervais is coming to Netflix in the future.
