Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has revealed she has plans in place for a third movie in the franchise, as well as a spin-off focusing on the Amazons.

The 48-year-old filmmaker told Total Film she has “an arc in mind” that would link the eventual four-film series, but said she would not direct the Amazonian spin-off herself.

Jenkins suggested that the spin-off movie will arrive in between Wonder Woman 1984 and the planned threequel.

“I’m not going to nail down a fresh thought about it until this movie comes out, because I kind of want to give myself a palate cleanser, and be fresh of mind,” she said.

“But yeah, there’s an arc that I have in mind for the first movie, and then the second movie, and then the Amazon movie, and then the third movie.”

Jenkins said she is “going to try really hard not to” helm the spin-off film, but said she pitched the project to Warner Bros with former DC chief creative officer and Wonder Woman 1984 co-writer Geoff Johns and will remain on as a producer.

Wonder Woman 1984 had been due to arrive in UK cinemas on 5 June, but was delayed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Gal Gadot will return to the role of the titular hero, with Chris Pine also showing up again despite his character Steve Trevor’s death in the 2017 original film.

Kristen Wiig will star as villain Cheetah, with Pedro Pascal also on bad guy duties as businessman Maxwell Lord.

Wonder Woman 1984 is now set for release on 13 August.
