X-Men: Dark Phoenix confirmed for 2018
A new ‘X-Men’ movie has been confirmed – ‘Dark Phoenix’.
It’s been rumoured for some time, but now it looks as though ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ has finally been confirmed. Based on the Dark Phoenix saga from the ‘X-Men’ comic books, it looks as though Jean Grey (played by Sophie Turner) will be realising her full potential soon enough…
But we all know how that turns out.
After all, we’ve seen that story on the big screen already.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the next ‘X-Men’ movie has been confirmed as ‘Dark Phoenix’ – a project was recently rumoured to be titled ‘X-Men: Supernova’ but which will follow the young Jean Grey as she becomes The Phoenix.
And we’ve already seen hints of that in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’.
The Phoenix saga began in Uncanny X-Men #101 back in 1976, and saw Jean Grey harnessing the powers of the Phoenix Force after being exposed to the deadly radiation of a solar flare during a mission in space. Her later corruption and fall to villainy was chronicled as the Dark Phoenix saga… and is considered to be a comic book classic.
Of course, the Dark Phoenix saga has already made it to the big screen, being adapted to form the basis of the third ‘X-Men’ flick – ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’. Unfortunately, it was almost universally loathed by fans and critics alike.
But does that mean it needs a do-over quite so soon?
‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ was released in 2006, and while Famke Janssen has since passed the baton of Jean Grey to young actress Sophie Turner, she hasn’t exactly made the role her own just yet. Not to mention the fact that there’s a huge swathe of far more original ‘X-Men’ movies already in the works – the likes of ‘Deadpool 2’, ‘New Mutants’ and ‘Gambit’.
Will ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ be any good?
For now, we have to wait and see. But it’s sure to make a lot of money.
